Zesty Zilij

Zilij, or more commonly known as Zellige, is a lovely traditional Moroccan art form. It is a form of Islamic Art that was introduced in the 700s AD. It consists of beautiful intricate patterns grouped together that originally depicted original artworks consistent with the Islamic teachings. A French chemist by the name Lavoisier began research on gypsum and studies its properties. Large deposits of gypsum were discovered near Paris, and hence the name ‘Plaster of Paris’ came into use.

People started using gypsum boards in construction. Named after Augustine Sackett, it was called “Sackett Board” and had thin layers of Plaster of Paris placed between wool felt paper.

20^th Century

Modern Day
